Bricky Waters singing at the microphone, harmonica holder at his chest

Thanks for stopping by

This year Brickwater is once again heading out with a guitar case and a harmonica, a legal drug pressing the little buttons at the back of your head. Dopamine for the smile in between, serotonin to take the edge off the pain. Solo or with Folk's Worst Nightmare, on cobblestones, in a forest clearing or on a festival stage: Brickwater works.

Sound-wise it is as 'brickwaterish' as ever, somewhere in the spheres between indie, folk and punk. Frontperson Bricky Waters, born and raised on soul and R'n'B and later swept into political punk rock, loves getting lost between genres. Once the shouting front man of the rascal punk 'n' roll band 'King Lui van Beethoven' and later a founding member of the Folk's Worst Nightmare collective, he plays songs with depth and levity, melancholy and reflection, with brains and heart, beautiful melodies and personal lyrics. Take as needed. Avoid underdosing!

    The Coming Up Whatever

There were always the forgotten ones, who were hiding from the future, shocked and overwhelmed by malicious and nefarious schemes. There were always constant seekers, which the time could not hold back, waiting so impatiently for someone to join the track. Well, I don’t know much but apparently they should hang out together. There have always been the voices that repeated the folly of some charlatans in parrot fashion, “straight white male is coming on”. They haven’t met the many addicts who are absorbing the world and life in themselves and learn to share the best world they could describe. Well, I don’t’ know much but apparently they should hang out together. I don’t wanna sound naive but I’m sure we sort out the coming up whatever. There have always been the ones who blossomed out in storm and dust, in rebellion and resistance against hypocrisy and breach of trust. They never had a drink or two with the anxious and oppressed, the less brave but not at all less worthy silent rest. Well, I don’t know much but apparently they should hang out together. I don’t wanna sound naive but I’m sure we sort out the coming up whatever. Well, I don’t know much but apparently they should hang out together. Well, I’m not quite sure but, as far as I can see, we stand and fall, eat and starve, hush and sing best together. To the coming up whatever.

    Starving

Starving in abundance and dying of thirst in a sea of ideas and advance. Oh so many options and every single one of them sucks. So I get lost again. Oh, I’ll fight but I’m tired enough to sleep. I’ll fight but I’m tired enough to sleep. And if freedom means abdication and abundance is apportioned and holes in hears are filled? They’ll ignore and ... show more laugh at you and fight you before you win or get killed. I’ll fight but I’m tired enough to sleep. Oh I’ll fight but I’m tired enough to sleep. ...and if things start getting awful? ... and in case that we succeed? Remember the idea of that story where we’ve been tired enough but fought till we got free. Starving in abundance and dying of thirst, oh I’m starving in abundance. Dying of thirst in a sea of Ideas and advance. But if holes in hearts got finally filled with peace? And in case, in case we will succeed?

    Lower The Blinds

It’s not what you’re thinking, it’s just that I’m more in love with you than with me today. So don’t speak, don’t waste your breath on me. Oh please, it’s just me. So I lower the blinds to lock the summer sun out. ... show more I rely heavily on the curative power of my Netflix account, so go out all alone tonight. I’m an incredible mess, unfair and pesky, a pain in the ass to myself and that’s far enough. So go out and have fun while I whine on the couch. So don’t speak, don’t waste your breath on me. Oh please, it’s just me. So I lower the blinds to lock the summer sun out. I rely heavily on the curative power of my Netflix account, so go out all alone tonight. So don’t speak, don’t waste your breath on me. Oh please, it’s just me.

    It's Okay

you can come in now, guess I calmed down enough to talk. Well, this might not excuse a thing, but all I’ve done was to try to make things right what I still do. While you keep on telling lies what you always do. It’s quiet now ... show more or it seems to be, I feel it right beneath my skin and I can smell the fire coming closer. The hypocrites sing their songs of indifference backed up by the coward’s elite, but they all feel the fire coming closer. It’s okay, we can talk it out, guess I already know your points. And it starts to hurt right at the moment where we both think we’re so right. Desperation takes place in here and I’m between losing my last patience and hide in the background singing songs I don’t like.

    Medicine

So I sat for hours under this strange sun and now I’m getting it, and we wonder what took me so long again. And While the storm front is rolling in, on my hand my medicine. So take over this mind. We’re still suburban kids ... show more looking to feel not nervous and not so alone. Then you made your heart my home. Well, this glorious mess and the overwhelming you. Your chest is my best hideout and your sounds my favourite tune. So take over this mind. Take over this mind and smash all the anger. Take over this mind quiet and soft. Take over this mind muffled, like you lay snow over this mind.

I Don't Wanna Hear It Anymore

so stop repeating your monologue. I ain’t the one that gives you what you need because I hardly can deal with this guy up here. And I don’t know the answers to all of your right or wrong questions so honey, I’m just trying to do my best with this hungry beating heart right down beneath my chest. Yeah, I want the moon since ... show more Frankie wanted it, I wanna earn money like Robin Hood did, I wanna be high and wasted anytime that I need a break. So leave me alone or love me unconditionally. Having semi-naked coffee conversations with myself about the existential things but I'm losing every argument. Remember all the hours I’ve spent trying to look myself in the eye? Today, I’m tired of ponderings headache, tonight I might be able to spit fire all along the ugly streetlights making me a moth are carrying my way. See yeah, I want the moon since Frankie wanted it, I wanna earn money like Robin Hood did, I wanna get high and wasted anytime that I need a break. So leave me alone or love me unconditionally.

    Positive Visions

She’s supersaturated, sick and tired of all reporting in TV, radio or her fucking Facebook account. She wants to get off, she has seen and heard it all. And she prayed while she waited. Oh, we all need positive visions. ... show more Oh we all need constructive plans, need each other’s hands. He garnered signatures to uncover what’s obvious and he talked and convinced and he failed again but he’ll rise and believe it’ll make a difference in the end. That it matters somehow. And he prayed while he waited. Oh we all need positive visions. Oh we all need constructive plans. But who needs news that has been told a thousand times. We don’t want any of this, any of these lines. I worried about rain while they blew up her house. My train was late while his family drowned. When everything is repeating why do we count?

    Jumping Just To Fall

I’m a princess tonight. And I’m sure you heard about it. Silence down, my ears need to ring tonight from the fucked sound of the show. Stumble through the audience with much too much margarita in my hair. Don’t ... show more care about our future and lie about our past, this night again at last, we’re all one fine mess. A punk show somewhere else with all my closest pals. Jumping just to fall into each other’s arms. I wanna set my shoes on fire just to be the hottest dancer tonight. I wanna put my tongue in Liam just to make another homosexual experience. Peter shared amnesia, made us high like a mountain. Now the band’s playing their final song. One last time we fall in love with the chorus until we’re all stage diving home. A punk show somewhere else with all my closest pals. Jumping just to fall into each other’s arms.
